Zuiganji Light Up October 28, 2017 – November 19, 2017
September 01, 2017
In autumn the Zuiganji Temple presents a “light Up” of its garden, and allows guests to come and enjoy the show. As you enter, you are invited to walk along delicate stone pathway, past eerie green-lit a stone statues emerging out of rock cliffs and encircled by huge sweeps of bowing bamboo.
You weave through a tall, military-erect forests of cedar trees and come upon a garden with stones surrounded by swirling raked pebbles. That orderly, well thoughe-out space is Matsushima in miniature, a circling ocean dotted with rock islands here and there.
To add to the charm and mystery of this “lightUp” experience, there are washi paper lanterns to mark the way through the forest and past a small temple. Further along circular lanterns are scattered throughout the trees, shedding gentle light on a man in traditional dress softly playing a bamboo flute. The sound is haunting and magical as its silver sound drifts though the night.
Come stroll along the tree-lined path leading towards Zuiganji Temple by candlelight. Continue on to the beautiful gardens of Entsuin where lights enhance the autumn leaves and reveal their reflections in a clear pond. Light up is from 11/1 to 11/30 nightly from 5:30 to 9pm (weather permitting).
Peak foliage times are expected to occur in mid-November.
